NOLUM Mayors Meet with Premier and Cabinet to Champion Northern Growth and Economic Stability

Toronto, ON – May 27, 2025 – Northern Ontario’s Large Urban Mayors (NOLUM) met Monday with Premier Doug Ford, certain Cabinet Ministers, and Invest Ontario leadership.

The discussions focused on protecting Northern Ontario’s economy, responding to the impact of tariffs, and creating the conditions for long-term growth. The mayors emphasized the need for strategic provincial action to accelerate project approvals, deepen partnerships with Indigenous communities, and expand the economic tools available to municipalities.

NOLUM looks forward to continued collaboration with the Government of Ontario on three key priorities:

  1. Improved roads and transportation corridors to enhance safety and connectivity
  2. Economic growth and job creation, particularly in response to trade challenges
  3. Equitable access to healthcare, housing, and public safety services

Northern Ontario is entering a period of renewed growth. With strong provincial partnership, our cities are well positioned to drive economic development and improve quality of life for residents across the region.
